Acupuncture is the medical practice of inserting skinny needles into specific points in the body. This practice was popularized by Chinese medicine but dated back to 5000-6000 B.C. Acupuncture is used today mainly to treat pain but can also be used to treat other medical conditions people may be experiencing. Block Sports Chiropractic and Physical Therapy provide acupuncture physical therapy near Patchogue. We have experience treating patients’ conditions utilizing acupuncture and have seen great results!

The use of acupuncture has proliferated over the past few years. This is due to scientific studies solidifying its benefits in treating various conditions. Block Sports offers acupuncture physical therapy near Patchogue and can help you treat your ailments with acupuncture.

Pain ReliefAcupuncture Physical Therapy near Patchogue

One of the most popular uses of acupuncture is to treat pain. This pain can be caused by other conditions such as chemotherapy-induced nausea, cramps due to menstruation, or even arthritis. We have been providing acupuncture physical therapy near Patchogue for over twenty years, and we have received a lot of patients’ pain using acupuncture.

Acupuncture can also help relieve pain that does not have an underlying cause. This can include:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Lower and upper back pain
  • Neck Pain

Soft Tissue Injury

Acupuncture is also able to treat soft tissue injuries. These are mainly strained muscles from over-use or improper use. Strained muscles can be misused by not using proper body mechanics when lifting, leaning, pushing, and pulling. We use acupuncture physical therapy near Patchogue to treat sprains. Sprains usually affect joints such as ankles and wrists. A sprain is a stretching or twisting of a ligament that connects your muscles to your skeleton.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

The science behind acupuncture is simple; It activates the body’s self-healing mechanisms. Using acupuncture physical therapy near Patchogue, we strategically place small, single-use needles around the body to tell your body to start the healing process. When we insert these tiny needles into your body, we tell your body to do a couple of things.

  • Increase blood flow to the areas that the needles are inserted
  • Release endorphins, the human body’s naturally occurring painkilling hormones

How Is Acupuncture Actually Performed

The needles used should always be new, single-use, disposable needles. This will prevent infection and other transmissible diseases. Depending on the condition, you may need to be treated once or twice a week for eight to twelve weeks.

  • First, your acupuncturist will examine your conditions so they can better develop a plan of treatment that will maximize the benefit of acupuncture.
  • Next, you will be instructed to lay on your front, back, or side. This will depend on the location of your injury and where the needles will be inserted.
  • After that, the acupuncturist will use advanced techniques to painlessly insert the needle. You may feel a slight tingling sensation, but this should go away soon after. Depending on your treatment plan, the hands may be stimulated with heat or electricity.
  • The needles will usually be left in for anywhere between five and thirty minutes.

Block Sports has over twenty years of experience treating peoples using acupuncture physical therapy near Patchogue. We examine your condition and develop a treatment course specific to you to maximize the benefit you will see.

As an ideal adjunct to chiropractic care, we use acupuncture when we see health problems that seem caused by disruption to energy pathways in your body called meridians. This centuries-old healing procedure focuses on the integrity of bodily systems, not specific conditions.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a self-healing treatment method used for pain management. It has become widely accepted in the medical community as a part of a comprehensive treatment approach by stimulating the body’s muscles and nerves. It involves the insertion of thin needles into specific parts of the body where there are reported feelings of pain or discomfort. In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture was believed to balance the body’s flow of energy by inserting the needles along its pathways.

What to Expect

When a client has a session for acupuncture physical therapy near Patchogue at Block Sports Chiropractic and Physical Therapy, they can expect to receive their treatment in a clean and safe environment. Our acupuncturists use medically sealed, single-use disposable needles with every client.

Before the session, the acupuncturist will assess the client’s condition to create the right treatment plan. This will help determine how many sessions are needed. During the session, the client will be asked to lay down before the needles are strategically placed at various points on their body. In a typical session, the acupuncturist may use 5 to 20 needles, depending on the client’s treatment needs. The needles may also be moved after placement on the body and manipulated by electrical pulses or heat if needed. Clients will lie still and have the needles remain in place for up to 20 minutes before removal. After the session, some clients may report feeling relaxed or energized.

About Us

Dr. Jeffrey Block founded Block Sports Chiropractic and Physical Therapy in Smithtown in 1993. He soon opened a second location in Selden, intended for his brother Dr. Richard Block, who was getting ready to graduate from chiropractic college and join his brother in practice. Since then, Dr. Jeff has switched to the Selden office and Dr. Rick works out of our Smithtown location. We work with physical therapists to offer our communities a complete healing experience.

Healing From the Inside Out

Our goal is to teach people that health comes from within, rather than from outside intervention. Staying healthy is the superior choice to seeking treatment once you’re sick. Therefore, we’re here to get you out of pain and help you prevent future problems from affecting your life.

Determining Your Specific Needs

The practitioners at both of our locations are trained in different areas and provide a range of complementary services. Our first goal is to figure out why problems exist in your body. Then, if we determine that we can help you, we’ll discuss the options you have to regain your health. Rather than just focusing on making you feel better, we address the cause of your pain.

The patients we see are often seeking help for

  • Family health
  • Geriatric health
  • No-fault injury
  • Pain management
  • Sports injury
  • Weight issues
  • Workers’ compensation
  • And much more!
