Nobody wants to spend the summer months dealing with a debilitating injury. At Block Sports Chiropractic & Physical Therapy, we want to keep you moving.  For information on prevention methods that can keep you injury-free this summer, continue reading.
Stretch Before Activities
One of the easiest ways to sustain an injury is by performing a physical activity while your body is stiff. When your muscles and ligaments are not warmed up, you can accidentally force them outside of their normal range of motion, leading to a painful injury taking place. To get the most out of your stretching, be sure to:
  • Focus on dynamic stretches over static stretches.
  • Ensure the stretches you select work the joints you plan on using the most.
Regularly Replenish Your Fluids
As the temperature rises, your body will need its fluids replenished more frequently than in other seasons. A failure to do so can lead to serious injuries taking place. When you become dehydrated, you increase the likelihood of suffering from muscle cramps and spasms. It can also lead to bouts of lightheadedness or spells of fainting.

Wear The Right Gear

Participation in outdoor activities can reach an all-time high during the summer months. If you’re one of the many who will spend as much time as possible outside this summer, wearing the right gear will help keep you protected. Examples of what you should always consider wearing include:

  • Well-fitting running shoes when you’ll be jogging often.
  • Cleats when playing a sport that takes place on dirt or grass.
  • Helmets, elbow pads, and knee pads when riding a bike, roller skating, or skateboarding.
